WRTS Antioch Fundraiser

We Rock the Spectrum - Antioch

We are Erika and Chris Buxton, owners of We Rock the Spectrum — Antioch. We are fundraising to be able to complete preparations to open our sensory gym to the Bay Area community of neuro-divergent and neuro-typical families alike! Let us share with you who we are, what we are doing, and how you can help.

Our Personal Story

We are parents to a wonderful son with Autism who is now embarking on the adventure that is adulthood. When our son was a child, we struggled to find a place where he could socialize and have fun with other kids. Most playplaces were too overwhelming for children on the spectrum like our son.

Erika has experience as a teacher and is now a pediatric speech pathologist working primarily with neurodivergent children and teens. Although she was helping many neurodivergent families through her speech therapy, she wanted to do and give more to the community. When she found the opportunity to open a We Rock location, she knew she had found her purpose. Not only would We Rock the Spectrum be a great recreation facility for neurodivergent children and teens, but it would also provide work opportunities for neurodivergent adults. In addition, We Rock would be a resource for families in the community who are trying to navigate the complexities of raising children on the spectrum.

What We Are Doing

We’ve built a place where kids of all abilities can play, swing, and have fun in a safe, indoor environment. We have a trampoline, a zip slider, a multitude of swings, an arts and crafts area, a toddler area, a teen lounge, and much more. We’ll be offering open play, birthday parties, social skills classes, movie nights, after-school care, and whatever else the community can think of to make the best use of our expansive space.

Our new kids gym is nearly complete! But just when we thought we were ready to open, we received the double whammy of not having the necessary operating permits arranged by our contractor, and our contractor going out of business. If we are able to navigate these last-minute hurdles, we’ll be full steam ahead on opening our doors!
